I had an older version of this cooktop. I prefer the location of the different size burners on the older model, but I like the hinged grates on the newer one. I had to have the flame levels adjusted on both because the lowest level was too high to simmer. Otherwise, the overall appearance and function are good on both.

I purchased this stove top about a month ago. I believe this has a manufacturing defect. It is extremely difficult to cook on. The grates are out of level, and I found the base is level. I have placed 1/2 in. nuts under the front to almost bring it level. Now I can cook eggs without half overcooked and the other half raw, I am very disappointed and I believe the defect was known and put on sale. Because of this I doubt I will purchase another Whirlpool product.

looks great. issue is that the gas does not go on when the ignitor is clicking. so, it needs to be timed perfectly or else you are repeatedly trying. ignitor is clicking and gas goes on once knob is moved more. at that point, gas is on, but ignitor is off

One of the reasons i purchased this Whirlpool cooktop was for the promise of easy cleaning but the grates are hard to lift and put back in place after lifting and you have to hold the grate with one hand and clean with the other otherwise if falls. There should have been a device that holds the grates while you are cleaning.

I was first hesitant about buying Whirlpool and I was also i hesitant about the hinged cooking grate, but I am happy to report it is easier to clean underneath the grates. It just lifts easily for no fuss cleaning. The components of the cooktop are good quality and doesn't feel lightweight or cheap. So all in all, I have no complaints. I have bought many brands over the years. Who knew that Whirlpool was this good? Not me.

I replaced my 15 year old Whirlpool cooktop with the EZ-2-Lift Hinged Cast Iron Grates model last week. I read a lot of reviews. The folks at the appliance store addressed my concerns and helped me to select this one. The design is sleek and modern and it fits very well in my kitchen over my oven. The grates are heavy but they lift easily and the stainless top cleans well with soap and water. The ignition on each burner is intact and responsive and I have noticed a big difference in the amount of time needed to cook. I rarely have to turn the flame beyond medium to low. Overall, very happy with my purchase and hope those who decide on this model are as well.

This came in our brand new home and the knobs melted within the first week. The flame and the knobs are too close and we have to pull our hands away quickly so we don't get burned. The grates sit higher than other brands as well resulting in longer cooking times.

for new houses with builder selected whirlpool?

Not sure why do they make the cast-iron grates so high that most of the time you waste 80% of the energy. Bad for the environment and bad for your pocket. I did not select these products but builder has a deal with whirlpool for clearing out their inventory. I (almost all the buyers in the development have issues with their appliances. They are pushed into Warranty phase on day one, you can not refund/upgrade. You are suck with it. If you are buying a house don't fall for these words "we cover it fully" it means we will keep repairing it or telling you that it is not supported and after 12 months you are stuck with a worthless appliance.)

The other 3 burners do not get low enough to simmer, they just continue to boil the food, so stay too hot. I'm hoping it's just an adjustment.

If I had a complaint it would be that the surface has such a clean look to it that it gets dirty at the drop of a hat. I bought the "StoveTop" cover that surrounds the burners under the grates and it looks and works great. Just remove the grates, remove the stove top liner wash it in the sink, dry and reassemble. Very simple 5 minutes. I bought it verses the model with the 5th burner in the middle because when you put something of any size on the center burner you just closed down the surrounding four burners. In other words it is too tight of space for a center burner within a group of five burners.
